Republican Liberty Caucus endorses Saxby Chambliss in U.S. Senate runoff election

ATLANTA - National and state leaders of the Republican Liberty Caucus today announced the group’s endorsement of United States Senator Saxby Chambliss in his reelection bid against Jim Martin.

“Jim Martin is an old school, tax-and-spend liberal who will be a rubber stamp for the Obama Administration,” said Todd Pull, Chairman of the Endorsements Committee of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Georgia. “For those of us who believe in lower taxes, private property rights and the Second Amendment, Saxby Chambliss is the clear choice in the runoff election.  We cannot afford a return to the failed tax-and-spend policies of the 1960s and 1970s.”

The Republican Liberty Caucus did not make an endorsement in the general election which included Chambliss, Martin and Libertarian Allen Buckley. Pull and and Westmiller said the organization was urging its members and all Georgians to vote for Chambliss in the runoff.

Pull praised Chambliss’s record on fiscal issues, including his consistent support for tax cuts and his 93% rating by the Club for Growth on pork, contrasting it with Martin’s support in the General Assembly for the largest state tax increase in Georgia history. He also said that Chambliss was strong on Second Amendment and private property rights.

The runoff election will be held Tuesday, December 2.

The Republican Liberty Caucus was founded in 1990 to promote the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberties within the Republican Party. The Republican Liberty Caucus of Georgia was chartered in 2002.

Endorsements in federal races require approval by both national and state organizations. A joint resolution endorsing Chambliss was approved by the National Executive Committee and State Endorsements Committee after the senator signed the Liberty Compact renewing his commitment to lower taxes, smaller government and free markets.
